This is a popular ingredient in nail polish and synthetic fragrances, also known as DBP. In cosmetics it’s used as a cosmetic stabiliser, plasticiser, and gives nail polish its unique hardening properties. DBP Is also used in PVC plastic as well as building materials, insecticides, and nutritional supplements. Because of their potentially harmful properties, several phthalates have been banned for use in cosmetics in Australia, including dibutylphthalate, diethylhexylphthalate, diisobutylphthalate and di(methyloxyhexyl)phthalate.
