This extract from the geranium flower is a volatile fragrance ingredient that can be sensitising when applied to the skin. However it poses little risk as it is not likely to penetrate far enough to reach the bloodstream. Research has also shown that geraniol, like other volatile fragrant oils, can oxidise when exposed to air and cause more damage to the skin.
