This group of controversial preservatives includes butylparaben, methylparaben, and ethylparaben. Parabens are used in cosmetics for their gentle and non-sensitising nature compared to other preservatives, and for the fact that they are naturally occuring in plants in the form of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA).
